Poor Little Melon

Our reflexes were certainly tested this week and probably will be every week going forward. Colin is crawling much faster and has starting venturing beyond just the living room in his explorations. He is also feeling more and more confident in climbing up onto couches, chairs, his high chair, desk, entertainment center, dishwasher; basically anything he can reach up and grab onto he tries to scale. I don't try to pull him down when he's climbing on something because I don't want to discourage him, so I just try to stay close in case he loses his footing. This weekend we are going to build a brachiation ladder (below) for him to climb, and the monkey bars at the top also help them learn to walk. Until then, he's fine with the patio chair. 

This week Colin had two big bonks on his head. The first was when he fell into the dog's food dish and had a big cut on his forehead! It was baby's first "blood" as they say, and it was so scary! Luckily he was ready for a bottle so that helped soothe him a little bit. Colin is an extremely fast roller, and he got the best of me this weekend when I was changing his diaper on the bed. All of a sudden I looked at him and he was sliding off the bed. He landed first on his arm then his little melon and just cried that gut-wrenching cry. It made me feel so guilty. We are always SO careful with his speedy little booty, but all it takes is once. We change him on the floor now - poor Dad has to sit cross-legged! 

Last week, I went onto Amazon to order some dinner trays and ended up getting the baby a couple books, a walker and a bead maze as well (Amazon is my Target, but online). He isn't quite sure what to do with the bead maze just yet (was more interested in the bags of air they pack the boxes with) but was really loving the walker. It is a super cute wooden one and has all kinds of gadgets for him to touch if he's not interested in standing. I even used it to push him around the apartment because it has a little compartment in the front. So cute. 

Colin had his second official swim lesson this weekend, and Chris' parents came up to visit and watch. He loves all the attention he gets and he thinks he is so cool. Chris did some more underwater practicing, even held him as he went down the slide and went underwater! The instructor has really taken a shine to him - it is a 6-24 month old class and she is always so impressed with how well he does with the exercises she gives him. So proud of my little guppy. 

Grandma Yvette wanted to get some summer clothes for Colin so we did some shopping. He is already fitting into 12-18 month clothes! He certainly isn't a girthy baby - mostly just long but I think he's pretty evenly proportioned. The obvious truth no matter what size he wears is that he knows he looks good - captured this snap when he was looking at a vending machine filled with bouncy balls.

Colin is such a great baby; he just goes with the flow and enjoys life. This week I put him in the stroller facing out instead of in the carseat and man, he just knew he was the coolest. I love taking him out on walks and out in public because he is so personable with everyone around him. Hopefully he becomes a little more cautious around strangers, but for now, a cute baby with a one-tooth-grin is pretty hard to resist.
